Nashville Metro Council approved woke resolutions calling for increased gun control laws and recognizing “Nashville Pride Month” at its June 7 meeting.
Metro Council approved RS2022-1580, which is sponsored by Councilmembers Joy Styles, Dave Rosenberg, Tanaka Vercher, Bob Mendes, Jeff Syracuse, Colby Sledge, Kathleen Murphy, Mary Carolyn Roberts, Ginny Welsch, Sharon Hurt, Courtney Johnston, Gloria Hausser, Freddie O’Connell, Burkley Allen, Tonya Hancock, Sandra Sepulveda, Kyonzte Toombs, Larry Hagar, Zulfat Suara, Bob Nash, Brandon Taylor, and Delishia Porterfield.
The legislation purports to be a resolution “remembering the victims of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.”
It does mention the Texas tragedy, saying, “The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as remembering the lives of the 21 people killed in the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, including 19 children and 2 teachers.”
However, recognizing the victims in the Uvalde tragedy appears to be a pretext in order use the sad situation for political means.
The resolution calls for more anti-Second Amendment legislation:
WHEREAS, the United States has more mass shootings than any other country in the world. While other countries have mental illness, domestic violence, and hateful ideologies that can lead to violence, our easy access to guns makes mass shootings possible and inevitable; and
WHEREAS, stricter gun laws that curb access to guns would definitively result in fewer mass shootings. A majority of Americans agree that gun laws should be stricter in the United States.
In another section, it says, “The Metropolitan Council further goes on record as supporting stricter gun laws that will keep guns out of the wrong hands.”
Council also approved RS2022-1581, a resolution “recognizing Wednesday, June 1 to Thursday, June 30, 2022 as the ‘Nashville Pride Month,’ celebrating the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer communities and their enormous contributions to the quality of life in Nashville and Davidson County, and further recognizing the 34th anniversary of the first Nashville Pride event.”
It was sponsored by Councilmembers Brett Withers, Russ Bradford, Nancy VanReece, Emily Benedict, Zach Young, and Joy Styles.
The meeting ran long, which caused Metro Council to postpone several items on the agenda to a Tuesday, June 14 meeting, which will begin at 6 p.m. The agenda for that meeting includes several bills on third reading.
The Budget and Finance, as well as the Planning and Zoning committees, are scheduled to meet at 5 p.m., one hour prior to the main council meeting.

What a sham of a council! You embarrass yourselves and our city with this woke crap! What’s the next ignorant thing you’re going to do…try to say light posts have feelings? Just stick to the issues that are many in metro government. Maybe if you actually did that you wouldn’t be running long on meetings and not getting all that you need to get accomplished done!
Out of touch in extreme.

Should be called Nasville Shame Month.
Nice lip service metro. Thankfully TN gun laws are only set at the state level and no other city, metro, town, etc. can impose tyranny.
